In 2020, I made a bold decision that transformed my life forever.

At that time, I was the Head of Financial Control at a hospital, where I discovered the transformative potential of Power BI in tackling our reporting challenges.

With the directors' support, we launched our first Power BI reports within months, which empowered me with future-proof skills and gave me a newfound sense of control over financial, HR and production reporting.

Inspired by this success, I began taking on Power BI projects on the side, eventually deciding to become a full-time Power BI consultant—a decision I have never regretted.

This transition brought me greater freedom, financial rewards, and the joy of helping others.

Combining my business experience with Power BI expertise, I have assisted multiple organizations in implementing their own Power BI dashboards aligned with core goals (KPIs). I am passionate about sharing my knowledge, whether as a speaker, trainer, or through YouTube videos, to empower others on their data journey.

My Background

I grew up in a regular family in a medium-sized city in the North of the Netherlands, living in a terraced house. Through dedication and hard work,

I earned my degrees, including a Chartered Accountant (CPA) qualification during my time at EY, where I gained invaluable experience. With a son and a daughter on the way, I transitioned to roles that allowed me to be more present at home, leading me to the healthcare sector.

In my career as a business intelligence consultant, controller, project manager, and financial manager, I was responsible for delivering monthly reports and financial statements. I consistently sought to accelerate processes and provide significant value to decision-makers.

Early on, I experimented with PowerPivot (as an addon) and VBA in Excel to enhance reporting efficiency. Recognizing the potential of Power BI, I committed to mastering it and integrating it into my role at the hospital.

My passion for innovation and lifelong learning drives me to not only acquire new skills but also to implement them in real-world processes and tell other people about it.

After successfully establishing a Power BI environment for the hospital alongside Anne and Adriaan, I ventured into entrepreneurship by founding my own Power BI consultancy. This journey has allowed me to transform my expertise into impactful solutions for my clients.

My Power BI journey

Five years ago, I began on my entrepreneurial journey, leaving behind the 9-to-5 job to pursue my passion for Power BI projects. I improved my technical skills(like Enterprise DNA platform, watching Youtube Channels like Curbal and Avi), applying them to real-world projects that deepened my expertise. However, I believe that mindset is crucial to overcoming challenges, and I surrounded myself with like-minded individuals in the Power BI Pro+ program. Although the program has ended, the community and connections remain vibrant.

I am a firm believer in the principle of teaching everything you know. Sharing knowledge is vital, and the best teachers are those just a few steps ahead, who understand the practical needs of the job. This philosophy led me to start a YouTube channel, where I share my gained insights on financial Power BI, and to engage with the community by speaking at (online Power BI) conferences a few times a year.

One of my proudest moments was traveling to Seattle to attend a Power BI retreat, where I presented a session. Additionally, I was honored to speak at the largest Power BI User Group in the Netherlands, the Power BI Gebruikersdag 2024, delivering a session on building a P&L in an hour (a condensed version of the training I developed).

I am deeply passionate about my work and committed to helping other controllers bridge the gap and make the career transition I did. While it may seem like a straightforward path to success, the journey is filled with ups and downs. During challenging times, having a community (network) of like-minded individuals is crucial. Sometimes, a simple remark from someone who understands your journey can reignite your passion and motivation and keep you going.

In line with my teaching philosophy, I have packaged my business and Power BI knowledge to empower others to make similar transformative changes. By combining that wit a community I hope more people can fulfiill their journey. By sharing insights and strategies, I aim to support others in navigating their unique paths and achieving their professional goals.
